The 1936 issue of the CT State Register lists WELI, owned by Patrick J. Goode, operating on 930 KHz with 500 watts of power.  The 1941 issues reports that they had changed their frequency to 960 KHz.

Contributor Tom Miller: "I enjoyed visiting the WELI website-it brought back so many memories. I grew up not far from the Hamden studios, attended the elementary school across the street, played hockey at the base of tower 4 when they used to have the area flooded and had tower number 3 blinking in my bedroom window every night. And while attending school across the street it was an event to watch my dad on occasion climbing tower to replace at burn out tower light. My dad, Jack Miller, worked for WELI for many years in the 50â??s through the early 80â??s. Needless to say I spent a lot of time at the station including watching tower number 2 (middle tower at the time) fall to the ground to make room for the addition of the two middle towers. I think it was on a Saturday morning. I can still recall the names of many of the on air personalities from the late 50's thru the 70's. In high school in the fall I work at the station peeling off college football scores and taping on the glass for Gene Anthony to read over the air. I even worked the board for John Bichardâ??s RSVP call in show for a while in 1969/70. In my dad's collection are many of the WELI event programs like the Halloween and trampoline events that the station held in the 60â??s and most of the material posted on this site came from the many WELI related things he hung on to. My dad also kept the station log for December 7, 1941 and an old WELI 1947 employee payroll sheet which is almost comical."

Sign off was 1A.M I also remember a talk host John Burcharde around 1969 on Sundays, Joel Alderman on a Sunday sports program. Are there any air checks from the early to mid 60's? I used to be able to see WELI's 4 tower array from my bedroom window-with their sequential lights. I still get a thrill when I come home and drive by the station. Eric:  The WELI page brought back many memories. I remember all the great local personalities like Ron Rohmer, Tom Whalen, Ed Flynn, Gene Anthony, Tom Bartlett, John Birchard and Hamp Hazelton just to name a few. New Haven radio will never be the same.'
